The objective of the Workplace Hollywood Arts, Media and Entertainment High School Work Based Learning Program is to provide high school students additional pathways to success. This program allows students to interact with the industry early in their development. Meaningful interactions, worksite visits, job shadowing and high school internships introduce them to various career options in an industry that has historically provided generous wages and benefits, thus making it possible for youth to build a successful life with or without a college education.
The goal of the high school program is to twofold: 1) provide students access to the entertainment industry, leaders, and professionals and 2) provide students with educational opportunities that teach students’ current protocols and procedures found in the industry.
Workplace Hollywood’s High School Work Based Learning Program partners with school districts and educators to provide a relevant and enriching adjunct to existing Arts, Media, and Entertainment Academies curriculums. Workplace Hollywood works with entertainment industry leaders in providing career exposure, job shadowing, field study, mentors and internship opportunities for students. The Program is centered on bridging the Arts, Media, and Entertainment industry with classroom learning by motivating students to answer the question, “why do I need to learn this?”, connecting the student to real-world applications.
This program enhances the students’ overall academic experience, encourages them to graduate and go on to post-secondary opportunities; the goal being to make a dent in the region’s unacceptably high dropout rates.
Currently, Workplace Hollywood is working ONLY with Design Charter High School in Los Angeles and John Muir High School in Pasadena.
