About Workplace Hollywood
Mission Statement
"Workplace
Hollywood is a non-profit organization that assists individuals from
historically underrepresented communities in Los Angeles to effectively
compete for and gain access to jobs and business opportunities in the
entertainment industry."
Workplace Hollywood (WH) is a non-profit,
community-based organization formed by the entertainment industry to ensure
that individuals from historically under-represented communities in Los Angeles
can successfully compete for, and gain access to, jobs and business
opportunities in that industry.
Entertainment industry and community leaders, who
realized that there were large numbers of people in greater Los Angeles who
were disconnected from the industry workforce, founded Workplace Hollywood in
1998. They saw a lack of access to information about career
opportunities, trainings and internships. And, of course, they understood
that these people did not have the connections necessary to pursue careers in
Los Angeles' signature industry.
The goal of Workplace Hollywood is to provide critical services to individuals who are
trying to break into the economic mainstream of Los Angeles' society.
This is accomplished
through several programs:
Arts,
Media & Entertainment Education Program
– Workplace
Hollywood’s high school work-based learning program partners with school
districts and educators to provide a relevant and enriching adjunct to existing
and new Arts, Media and Entertainment Academy curriculums. Workplace Hollywood
works with entertainment industry leaders in providing career exposure, job
shadowing, field study, mentoring and internship opportunities for students.
The Program is centered on bridging the Arts, Media and Entertainment industry
with classroom learning by motivating students to answer the question, why
do I need to learn this?, connecting the student to real-world
applications, and in this program, connecting them to the industry. This
program enhances the students’ overall academic experience and encourages them
to graduate and go on to post-secondary opportunities - the goal being to make
a dent in the region’s unacceptably high dropout rates. Having been exposed to
arts, media and entertainment, students realize that there are that many more
opportunities for them when they graduate.
Internship
Program
- Workplace Hollywood’s College Internship Program places talented diverse
college students with entertainment companies for hands-on work experience and
on-the-job training from industry professionals. Students gain real-world job skills while
networking with professionals who have years of experience and expertise. The
internships give students a competitive advantage before entering the
workforce. This Program offers non-paid
(credit-only) and paid internships. The
Program is year-round with an emphasis on careers behind-the-scenes of the entertainment
industry in Los Angeles. Hiring
companies have included: ABC, CNN, Fox Entertainment Group, NBC/Universal, Sony
Pictures Entertainment, The Walt Disney Company, Turner
Broadcasting, Warner Bros., among others.
Departments where students have been placed include gaming, engineering,
MIS, TV, contract administration, publicity, sales, special events, tours,
corporate traffic/logistics, procurement, corporate archives, business
affairs/legal, finance, accounting, development, acquisitions media research,
technical operations, marketing, advertising, animation production, human
resources, consumer
products, home
video operations, creative services and more.
To apply for an
internship, students must:

enrolled in college. Graduate students are welcome to apply.

individuals from under-represented communities to get the knowledge and access they need to successfully
compete for career opportunities in the industry. We provide one-on-one and
